Age Classifications for Players - Based on Year of Birth
Player numbers do not allow AMBUSC to have any odd numbered age levels (e.g. U5, U7, U9 etc...). Therefore all children that fall into these odd years, play up one level. I.e. children born in 2014 would be Under 6, kids born in 2012 would be Under 8 etc...
Playing Up
A player of exceptional ability might wish to be assigned to a team in an older division in order to provide appropriate challenge and development. Playing-up is always based on ability and is not an option for "playing with friends", "playing with siblings", "car-pooling with a neighbour" etc. The player must be registered in his/her natural age group to start the season. A formal request must be submitted to the club office to play up.
Playing Down
Under Ontario Soccer (OS) rules, a player who demonstrates significantly reduced ability may be assigned a team in a younger division. The club must obtain permission from the District for each player and usually takes two weeks for a final response. Permission is typically only granted in situations such as Down's Syndrome, Muscular Distrophy, amputation, etc. "He is the smallest in his class", she was born on December 30th", etc are not criteria on which Playing Down Permission will be granted. The player must be registered in his/her natural age group to start the season. A formal request must be submitted to the club office to play down.
