Mini Program

OUTDOOR SEASON 2024

 Season runs May 21 - August 10, 2024:

The AMBUSC mission has always been to provide appropriate programs for all ages including our Mini group from U4 DOB 2019 to U8 DOB 2015.  We were able to bring our full program back last year as Covid restrictions were lifted and it was really like starting over. We got off to a great restart last season and are excited to build on that and get even better this year and beyond. We will start the week of May 23 with a meet the coach night and hand out uniforms. Parents can bring their players to the first night and we will have team lists and field maps posted to indicate where each age group will play each week with club officials to help direct traffic and answer any questions.

Ontario Soccer has developed a Long Term Player Development program that guides clubs how to train players at each age. The Mini Program is designed to optimize fundamental skills to help children feel competent & comfortable participating in a variety of fun and challenging soccer based games. The idea is to ensure the children are having fun while giving the base and foundation of skills and knowledge needed to continue development as they progress with their soccer career.

U4 and U5 players will have one training session per week at 6PM on Thursdays. The group will work with coaches on development of ball control, training with their team and as an age group to maximize their learning experience.

U6 players will train on Tuesdays at 6PM and will work with coaches on ball control, movement, passing and small sided game situational play. There will be 3 additional fun days from 9AM-11AM on Saturdays June 15, July 13 and August 10 to learn more about 3 vs 3 game play.

U7 and U8 players will play on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6PM with designated practice and game nights. Players will learn about 5 vs 5 game play while continuing to develop ball control, movement, passing and game situation knowledge. This will help prepare them for their move to youth program play in leagues with games against other clubs. We will also be looking at our U8 age group for select players to have additional training opportunities to participate in festivals (tournaments) in the Ottawa area during the summer.

We are proud to continue to work with Tim Hortons for our mini program sponsorship and are very grateful for all the support they give to us providing uniforms and balls for all our mini players. Shin pads are required with socks to cover and cleats are recommended but not mandatory (running shoes with good tread are acceptable).

In order for this great program to run, we need the help of a number of volunteers so our children can participate and play. We are looking for co-coaches (2 per team is ideal). Anyone with an interest in soccer is welcome regardless of experience: parents or students that may need volunteer hours. This year we are looking into providing Coaching Certification and Training courses in the spring and we will have a coaches training day before the season starts with our Club Head Coach.
