Wow incredible weather, July is
hot, soccer is plenty and we are a little more than half way through the season
for our mini program and another 6 weeks for the youth before we hold our next
tournament in Arnprior. We are hosting the finals for the U14 Girls, U16/17
Girls, U 15 Boys, and U16/17 Boys for the Goulbourn Lanark Soccer League. With
our milestone this year of 40 years for adult soccer and 30 years for our youth
we sure are doing well at celebrating.
The beginning of May had us host
a tournament for the Men's over 35 divisions to kick off the season. This was
our first tournament with 4 teams and they all had a great time and are already
looking forward to next year. We hope to build on the number of teams for next
year and think this will continue to grow over the next many years.
Today we were featured as part of
the Fury Fanatics where we had our two U10 girl's teams playing on the field at
TD Place at half time during the Fury game. They started the day before the
game doing some skills and we were on the jumbo screen where everyone saw
Arnprior McNab Braeside United Soccer Club. Along with the 20 players on the
field we had 3 of our coaches’ right on the field with them. Thank you to
coaches Zak Butterly, Bill Currie and Les Laprade to give the girls a great
experience. We had over 50 people from our community take part in our day. This
was a fantastic time to be featured with so much excitement throughout the
soccer community as everyone is watching the world cup with only 4 teams left
to play before a champion is crowned.
As many of you know now, we have
been successful at receiving a Trillium Grant for $150,000 which will go
towards lights for our field and will help shape the landscape of when and how
we play at Dochart Park. This will open up more time for our club to continue
programming in the fall and have games played later in the evening for the
adults and create more opportunities for any competitive teams to be formed.
Even though the amount is a large sum we will still be short some to finish off
the lights that are expected to take place in September. Our club will be
looking to raise $10,000 which will be 25% of the shortfall of the expected
amount needed to complete the work to install lights at the field. Township of
McNab Braeside will pitch in the rest.
Over the next few weeks we will
be doing a fundraiser of selling Domino's Pizza cards for $10. I would like to
ask you to consider buying the cards to help us raise the funds needed. With
these cards you will receive a large free pizza and more coupons to buy a pizza
and get the second free. This has been a great fundraiser for other sports
organizations and will quickly help our club raise the funds we need. We will
have tickets at the building at Dochart Park and will work to have our team
managers and conveners to help streamline sales by taking names of parents
willing to purchase the pizza cards over the next couple weeks.
Last but not least we are
preparing for the end of year banquet to be held at Nick Smith Centre on
Saturday August 11th. We will be featuring a lunch for our mini players and
their families from 11am-2pm and a supper for our youth and adults will follow
later that day from 5-8pm. Please mark it on your calendar as we would love to
have everyone come out and be a part of the celebration for our players and
coaches and we will hand out our medals for players on that day.
Thank you all for your support of
the club as we continue to celebrate all the milestone of soccer our great
community has enjoyed over the years.
Yours in Soccer
